Re-Cap of Boys Tennis Match - Banning vs. Narbonne - 4/24/09

Congratulations to the Boys Tennis Team for another great win in the regular season finale vs. Narbonne.  In a contest where all 7 matches were completed in just 1 hour, there would be no real drama this time around, as the Pilots took control early & never relinquished it, determined to ensure that "Senior Day" would not be spoiled.

In Singles, Banning's depth prevailed, with Hernan Suarez & Diego Mayorga winning easily in straight sets. Suarez struggled to control the match in the 1^st set, but once it was secured, he piled on the pressure, closing out his opponent 6-1 in the 2^nd.  Mayorga, on the other hand, never seemed to struggle & came just one game shy of producing the complete shutout.

In doubles, Jesus Valladolid & Daniel Quinonez, in only their second game back, dominated from start to finish, producing the 6-1, 6-1 "fish sticks".  Meanwhile Victor Duran & Joseph Mejia left no room for doubt, & provided the clinching 6-2, 6-2 victory.  With the overall team victory secured, Justin Garcia &Marcus Macias trailed 0-5 in the 1^st set but rallied to tie it at 5-all before finally succumbing to defeat in the only close match of the day. 

"Senior Day" was a tremendous success & a great going-away celebration for the team's 4 seniors, with Zaragoza (2^nd year), Torres (3^rd year), Mayorga (2^nd year) & Duran (1^st year) going 2-2 on the day. Not only did the Pilots ensure a celebratory mood by winning the match, but the team also captured a 2^nd place finish in the final Marine League standings for the 3^rd time in 4 years & likely a 4^th straight playoff berth.
