Re-Cap of 4/22/09 Boys Tennis Match vs. Gardena
Congratulations
to the Boys tennis team for a tremendous 4-3 victory over Gardena on Wednesday. Although the final score was a close
4-3, the match was never really in doubt, as all 4 of the team's wins on the day were won in dominant fashion. The win
now puts the Pilots at 6-3 in league play, in sole possession of 2nd place.
In doubles Ricardo
Zaragoza & Victor Duran, as well as Jesus Valladolid & Daniel Quinonez (who both just re-joined the team after gaining
eligibility) shut-out their opponents, in a 6-0, 6-0 "dozen donuts" win. Hernan Suarez & Joseph Mejia were not
far off the pace, also winning in straight sets: 6-2, 6-1.
In singles, Diego Mayorga also dominated
his match with a 6-1, 6-2 drubbing of his opponent. The match of the day, BY FAR, was at the #3 singles position. In
a 3-hour marathon match, Marcus Macias battled his opponent in a very back-and-forth affair that was stretched to the limit
& perhaps the longest match in team history, in a contest where the average point was seemingly 15-20 shots each.
Despite the fact that Macias fell just short of victory, the amount of heart & soul poured into his effort will be one
for the ages.
In JV action, Kwang Lee & Alex Chun dominated & shut-out their varsity opponents
8-0, while Carmelo Jaramillo & Daniel Gomez also played well, taking 6 games in a 1-set match versus the Panthers'
#1 varsity doubles squad.
Great job, once again Pilots! Good luck vs. Narbonne on Friday's
SENIOR DAY and season finale.
