Re-Cap of Boys Marine League
Tennis Match - Banning vs. San Pedro 4/17/09
Congratulations to the Boys Tennis Team for
a great effort in a close 5-2 loss vs. San Pedro on Friday. The match was expected to be a close battle. Despite the
fact that the Pilots won 5-2 in the season's first match-up, there were several close wins for the Pilots that day.
Adding to the story line was the fact that the Pilots were missing their #3 overall player at #1 doubles, Ignacio Torres.
In doubles, Victor Duran & Joseph Mejia took the first set easily, but had to fight back after falling
1-6 in the second before closing it out 6-3 in the 3rd set. Marcus Macias & Diego Mayorga played some
great tennis, with Mayorga falling to the great in an incredible point-saving shot that seemed to account for their tight
score early in the 2nd set before losing the final 3 games & the set.. Meanwhile, Carmelo Jaramillo &
Daniel Gomez also played well in the 1st set, before falling in the 2nd.
In singles,
Hernan Suarez dominated and frustrated his much more experienced opponent in straight sets in a 6-4, 7-5 dogfight. Justin
Garcia also battled in his match before finally falling in 3 sets.
In JV Action, Hector Briseño
& Eric Mendez played well amd took 2 games versus Varsity competition.

luck in the final two matches of the season this week at home vs. Gardena on Wednesday & Narbonne on Friday!
