Re-Cap of Boys Marine League Tennis Match - Banning vs. Gardena 3/27/09

Congratulations to the Boys Tennis Team for a tough 4-3 victory over Gardena on Friday.  After fighting through several tight matches, the Pilots came out victorious versus an up-and-coming Panthers squad, to maintain a firm grasp on 2^nd place in the Marine League.

In Doubles, Ignacio Torres & Marcus Macias continued their recent success by shutting out their opponents 6-0 in the 1^st set, while  Joe Mejia  & Hector Briseno did so in the 2^nd as both pairs dominated & won in straight sets.  Victor Duran & Daniel Gomez also won in straight sets completing the doubles sweep for the Pilots.

In singles action, Hernan Suarez, fighting off a wrist injury, sucked it up & battled his opponent for 3 sets, while Carmelo Jaramillo refused to be blown out after suffering an 0-6 1^st set.  Fighting up until the very end, Jaramillo fended off 3 straight match points in a 20-point tie-breaker that was one of the longest in Pilots history.  However, it was Justin Garcia who shutout his opponent 6-0 in the 1^st, before closing him out 6-3 in the 2^nd to clinch the match for the Pilots.

In JV action, all doubles squads faced off versus Varsity competition.  Eloy Ruiz & Kwang Lee led their opponents 5-4, Miguel Pila & Kevin Reyes were all tied up at 5-5 in the 2^nd set, Robert Guerrero & Steve Chavez stole 2 games, and Eric Mendez & Alex Chun performed admirably versus Gardena's top 2 Varsity players before all of the action was called due to time constraints.
