Re-Cap of Banning Pilots - Battle of the Sexes - Boys vs. Girls 3/20/09

Congratulations to next year's Girls Tennis Team for their 4-3 victory over a mix of Varsity & JV Boys players on Friday.  After preparing for the possibility of a Washington forfeit scheduled for the Boys, the Girls decided to challenge the Boys in a "Battle of the Sexes" match. What followed was a fun & interesting look at the future of both programs.

In singles play, Kathy Ngo led the way for the girls, with an 8-3 win over Carmelo.  In a "Battle of the Vic's", however, Victor's identical win over Victoria would nullify the aforementioned loss.

In doubles, the Boys would take an early lead as Hector & Eric, as well as Kwang & Eloy built substantial 5-2 leads over Dalilia & Melissa, as well as Lizbeth & Luisa respectively, before those girls' doubles squads would retire due to time constraints.  However, Sandra & Patty would punch through with an 8-4 win of their own over Daniel & Miguel, while Jamie & Wendy also topped Robert & Steve to give the girls life & set up the dramatics of the deciding match.  In that match, Rebeca & Jesica battled Alex & Kevin to a tie, through the first 14 games.  At 7-all, the tie-break began, as the battle continued in an extended match requiring "overtime", as the girls finally pulled it out with an 8-6 win in that tie-break to give the girls the overall 4-3 win over the guys.
