Re-Cap of 11/19/08 Playoff Match vs. Venice – Semifinals

Congratulations to the Lady Pilots Tennis Team an incredible effort in Wednesday’s semi-final match versus the #1 seed: Venice. Fighting until the very last match on court, the Pilots fell short by the slimmest of margins in a tightly contested 4-3 loss. Despite the loss, the Pilots showed a tremendous amount of heart & finished team play with a record 11 wins on the season, the most wins in perhaps the last 10-15 years.

In singles, Diana Alvarado set the table & won the first match for the Pilots with a quick straight-set win early in the day. Meanwhile, Kathy Ngo also dominated her straight-set victory as the last match on court. Cristina Alvarado & Norma Santamaria fell to their tough opponents, but played extremely well, especially considering their competition.

In doubles, after squeaking out an 8-6 tie-break in the 1^st set, partners Veronica Trujillo & Jasmin Jimenez took care of their match once again, in an extremely close one, but still managed to do so in straight sets. Sandra Medina & Victoria Martinez, as well as Patty Ledesma & Anais Noriega also played well, falling to their much more experienced Gondolier opponents.

While the team-play part of the season is now over, the team now look to cheer on 8 of the team’s 10 regular starters as they now prepare for the individual doubles tournament beginning on December 3^rd.  Great job, once again, Pilots & good luck in the individual tournament.
