Re-Cap of 11/10/08 Playoff Match vs. Reseda – Round 1

Congratulations to the Lady Pilots Tennis Team for their 5-2 victory over Reseda on Monday.  The Pilots showed a tremendous amount of heart & toughness, as 3 of the team's 5 match-wins came in 3 sets.

In singles, Kathy Ngo was the first to finish her match, with a 6-1, 6-1 straight-set drubbing of her opponent.  Meanwhile, Diana Alvarado lost her 1st set 3-6, before becoming "possessed" & reeling off 12 straight games to take her match, closing out the next two sets 6-0, 6-0, for the "dozen donuts" the hard way.  Cristina Alvarado, however, set the tone for the team early by taking the first set in her match at the #1 singles position, before also closing out her match in 3 sets.

In doubles, Veronica Trujillo & Jasmin Jimenez continued to show why they are one of the top doubles tandems in the city.  After falling behind 4-1 early in the match, Trujillo & Jimenez took 11 of the next 12 games to take their match in straight sets. Patty Ledesma & Anais Noriega took their 1st set with relative ease before their Regent opponents rallied to tie the match at 1-set all.  In the third set, things remained tight as both teams fought to a 4-4 tie, before Ledesma & Noriega struggled to convert multiple match points at 5-4 as deuces were wild & back-and-forth.  Ledesma & Noriega would finally prevail, however, after breaking the 5-5 tie, winning the last 2 games convincingly.
