Congratulations to the Boys Tennis Team who, after posting a 7-2 league record, finished
in 2nd place for the first time since 2008. Despite the rainouts of the league finales, it was determined that since they
mathematically would not affect the final standings, they would not be re-scheduled. Compiling a 14-3 overall record,
the Pilots now await the team's fate and news from the CIF seeding committee as to whether or not the team has qualified for
the Division I team playoffs. In other
news, the Pilots are happy to announce that 6 of the team's starters have been selected to play in the 6th Annual Marine League
Singles & Doubles Championships. In singles, Jorge Zavala earned the #2 seed in the tournament, and will face off
vs. the #3 singles player from Narbonne, who is the #7 seed. Jonathan Guray just made the cut, and as the #8 seed will
take on Narbonne's #1 player, and the #1 seed in the tournament. Daunting as the task may seem, Guray needs to look no further
than last year when teammate Jorge Zavala upset the #2 seed, as the #7 seed in the tournament. In doubles, Michael Gonzalez
& JoseAngel Sotelo are the #2 seeds, and will face off against their own teammates, Fernando Corona & Esteban Zavala,
who are the #7 seeds. Up for grabs, is
not only the title of league champ, but an automatic entry into the CIF LA City Section Singles & Doubles Championships.
Out of over 24 singles players & at least 36 doubles players in the league, the top 8 singles players, and the top
8 doubles pairs are selected for this honor & opportunity. Good Luck Pilots!
