Re-Cap of 10/16/08 Girls Tennis Match: Banning vs. Carson

Congratulations to the Lady Pilots Tennis Team for a great effort in a tough loss vs. the Colts on Thursday. Despite the fact that the loss snapped the Pilots’ 4-game win-streak, there were many positive accomplishments.

The Pilots showed their potent doubles presence in the Marine League, almost doubling the amount of games won as compared to this year’s previous contest, combining to win a total of 9 games. 

Leading the way were #1 doubles Veronica Trujillo & Jasmin Jimenez who really took it to Carson’s #1 offering & presented the first serious threat to take a match in several years.  Trujillo & Jimenez raced out to a 6-5 lead late in the match, playing perhaps the best tennis of their careers, before finally falling just short in the last 3 tightly contested games.  These two Pilots showed a tremendous amount of confidence & poise in a pressure-packed match marked by an array of incredible shots by both sides.  The effort drew a tremendous amount of respect, praise & words of respect from the opposing coach.

In JV action, Dalilia Cornejo & Jessica Cortez, as well as Jazmine Martinez & Areli Chun produced the only 2 wins on the season vs. the Colts, while Wendy Arreola & Helly Duran almost came away with a win also, forcing an 8-7, 9-7 tiebreak.

The Pilots now look to get back on track next week as they travel to Gardena on Monday.  Great job & good luck down the stretch! J
