Re-Cap of 10/13/08 Girls Tennis Match: Banning vs. Narbonne
Congratulations to the Lady Pilots Tennis
Team who extended their winning streak to 4 matches, with a extremely close 4-3 victory over Narbonne on Monday. With the
win, the Pilots have now taken sole possession of 2nd place through the 1st half of league play.
In Singles, Diana
Alvarado & Kathy Ngo rolled on to identical 8-3 victories, while Cristina Alvarado & Norma Santamaria played tough
vs. a pair of talented Gauchos.
In doubles, Patty Ledesma & Anais Noriega played with a tremendous amount of heart, and
were literally 1-2 points from taking their match in a super-close tie-break, in which they fought back hard from a 2-6 deficit
before finally falling. Sandra Medina & Victoria Martinez rushed out to a quick 6-3 lead before closing
out the match 8-6.
The story of the day, however, was #1 doubles Veronica Trujillo & Jasmin Jimenez. After all other
6 matches were completed, the overall team score stood at 3-all. That meant that Trujillo & Jimenez represented the deciding
match. After trailing 4-2 early, these two Lady Pilots took 6 of the next 8 games & closed out one
of the Marine League’s top duos to give the Pilots the overall team win.
In JV/Exhibition action, Wendy Arreola &
Jessica Cortez defeated their opponents 6-3 in the only JV win on the day, while Jazmine Martinez & Dalilia Cornejo, as
well as Luisa Martin & Jamie Vasquez played tough in identical 7-5 losses.
