of 10/8/08 Girls Tennis Match: Banning vs. Washington
Congratulations to the Lady Pilots Tennis Team for extending their winning streak to 3 matches, with their
third 7-0 shutout, this time over Washington on Wednesday. The Pilots are now 21-0 in individual matches over the last 3 contests.
In addition, not only did the Pilots win all 7 matches, but they also outscored the Generals 56 games to only 1, literally
falling only 1 game of short of perfection & matching a feat last performed in 2006.
In
Singles, Veronica Trujillo, the team’s newly crowned #1 player saw her first action at the #1 singles spot & dominated
her match 8-0, as did Jasmin Jimenez & Victoria Martinez. Sandra Medina also played very well, just
barely missing out on the shutout, during a controversial 8-1 win.
In doubles, all three duos,
Cristina Alvarado & Diana Alvarado, Norma Santamaria & Kathy Ngo, as well as Patty Ledesma & Anais Noriega disposed
of their opponents quickly with three identical 8-0 shutouts.
In JV/Exhibition action, Jazmine Martinez & Dalilia
Cornejo, Wendy Arreola & Helly Duran, Jessica Cortez & Lizbeth Medina joined the “donut” party, &
all posted 6-0 shutouts versus varsity competition. The most exciting match of the entire day, however,
involved Angel Noriega, playing her first ever singles match versus Washington’s #2 varsity
player. After falling behind 2-5 & only 1 game away from defeat, Noriega mounted a tremendous effort, drawing crowds of
fans & cheers as she won the next 5 games in a row to complete the improbable 7-5 comeback victory.
