Congratulations to the two pairs of doubles that the Pilots sent to Encino for a great effort during
the 1st round of the doubles championships. Michaael Gonzalez & JoseAngel Sotelo had the daunting task of taking
on a squad from Palisades, fresh of the Division 1 team championship, and played well despite the extremely high level of
talent on the opposing side of the net. Meanwhile, Salvador Lara & Julio Sanchez faced off versus the top pair from
Hamilton & took 6 games in what ended up being a close match. Although the Pilots did not advance, it was an awesome
opportunity for both Lara & Sanchez whose long-awaited opportunity to be full-time starters on the team was rewarded with
their selection in these elite championships to end their careers. Gonzalez & Sotelo, meanwhile, look forward to
returning to the Balboa Tennis Center as they ponder the idea of keeping their tandem together to make a deeper run in 2016.
