Congratulations to the Boys Tennis Team for an inspirational effort in Friday's Semifinal match vs.
SOCES. In singles, the Pilots took 6 matches, with Julian Frausto & Chris Leon taking 2 apiece. In doubles,
Gerardo Lopez & Omar Renteria once again had a surprise performance, winning 2 of their 3 as they did in Wednesday's
match vs. South East. Their performance helped to create the drama of the final match on court. After taking their
first 2 matches 7-6 (3) & 6-0, Salvador Lara & Julio Sanchez were in position to put the Pilots into the Championship
match. Despite all of the team's shortcomings & disappointments throughout the rest of the match, Lara & Sanchez
led 5-4 and seemed poised to close out their match to help make history. It was not to be, however, as the Knights pulled
even & eventually closed out the match. Despite the loss, Lara's & Sanchez's play was inspirational and a major
point of pride for the team, as they knew that the win would have given the Pilots a 15-14 1/2 victory. Nevertheless,
the team remained proud of this season's success, reaching the Semifinals for the 3rd time in 4 years, and setting a new high
in team wins, with 14. As what was already known to be the absolute last time the team's Seniors would play a match
at Banning, the graduates have left a tremendous legacy for their achievements, both on and off the courts. Great job
Pilots & good luck to those whose season will continue in the CIF LA City Section Singles & Doubles Championships
beginning later this month at the Balboa Tennis Center in Encinco, CA.
