6 Pilots Advance to Semi-Finals, Improve CIF Probabilities; Fruasto Runner-Up in Singles...

Congratulations to the Boys Tennis Team for yet another amazing run during the Marine League
Singles & Doubles Championships. In Doubles, both pairs produced upsets over the higher seeds, as Michael Gonzalez
& JoseAngel Sotelo defeated the #1 doubles squad, and #4 tournament seed from Carson in 3 sets. Meanwhile, Salvador
Lara & Julio Sanchez upended the #3 tournament seed from Gardena rather easily, in straight sets. In singles, Jorge
Zavala produced the biggest upset of the entire tournament after dispatching the #1 player from Narbonne who was the #2 seed
in the tournament, in a grinding 3-setter. Finally, Julian Frausto had the unpleasant role of having to end 2 of his
teammates' hopes as he battled Chris Leon to a win, before taking care of Zavala to reach the Final. While none of the Pilots were able to win the guaranteed Marine League
spot in the CIF LA City Section Singles & Doubles Championships to be held at the end of April, 6 of the 7 Pilots improved
their standing in the league, and greatly improved their chances of being selected to participate in the "big" tourney
at Balboa Tennis Center in Encino. Great
job Pilots & good luck vs. Grant on Monday in the Team Playoffs!
