Congratulations to the boys tennis team for a great showing at the SCTA’s Annual
Pete Brown 1st Serve Tournament at West Torrance High School. Over the course of 3 weekends, at 2 different locations, 48 top CIF schools gathered
to compete in this series of 1-day tournaments. The Pilots
were fortunate to once again be part of the action after a 1-year hiatus in 2014. Despite missing the team’s top player who was preparing for Sunday’s LA Marathon, and ½ of the
team’s #3 doubles pair, the Pilots performed admirably winning a total of 37 games and capturing both the #1 & #2
singles matches over San Gabriel. Brayan Camacho almost made it 3 against the Matadors, as he fell just short of a historic
comeback after trailing 2-7, and winning 5 games in a row to force the tie-break. The first match of the day would prove to be the best for the Pilots, yet they continued to fight against stiff competition
from Simi Valley & West Torrance, in what would turn out to be a day of valuable learning experiences, especially for
the team’s top 2 JV players who saw their first action in the varsity lineup this season. Great job Pilots & good
luck vs. Leuzinger on Monday!
