The 2014 CIF LA City Section Singles & Doubles Championships draw was just announced, and the matchups
in the 1st round for the Pilots are a follows: In singles, Marivi Angel will be taking on the only entry from Westchester, Arrielle Ellis. Ellis
seems to have played a combination of both #1 and #2 singles positions. The only basis of comparison was an
early-season 8-6 win that Ellis had over Carson’s #2, Jasmeen Biadora, who ended up as the eventual Marine League Singles
                                    Champion.

    In doubles, Sara Barragan &
Elizabeth Cano wil be taking on Belle Giang & Sophie Sonnenleiter of West Valley powerhouse, El Camino Real.  It seems as if Giang & Sonnenleiter did not play together at all during the
season, with Sonnenleiter playing mostly at #1 doubles, and Giang at #2 doubles. As a point of comparison, Sonnenleiter &
a different partner defeated Taft’s top pair of Michelle Kaplansky & Julie Kaufman 8-4, while the same pair of Kaplansky
& Kaufman defeated Barragan & Cano in the quarterfinals of the team playoffs 3-6, 0-6. Giang, with a different partner
as well, squeezed out an 8-7 (7-4) tie-break win over Taft’s #2 pair of Amar/Fridman, who were defeated by the Pilots’
Sebastian & Torres 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 in the team quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, Vianca Sebastian & Brenda Torres will, ironically, face the aforementioned squad from Taft, Kaplansky
                                    & Kaufman.   Congratulations again, Pilots
& good luck on December 2nd!
