Re-Cap of 9/15/08 Match: Banning vs. Westchester
Congratulations to the Girls Tennis Team for their season-opening
4-3 victory over Westchester. In a rare twist from the Pilots’ recent success, it was the Pilots’ strength at
singles that won the match over the Comets, sweeping all 4 match-ups.
In singles special recognition goes out to Diana
Alvarado, who dominated her match with an 8-0 shutout, while Norma Santamaria, with the overall team score tied at 3-3, clinched
the team victory with her 8-3 win. Cristina Alvarado was also impressive in her debut at #1 singles with
another 8-3 win for the Pilots, while Veronica Trujillo continued to play well for the Pilots easily winning 8-4.
In doubles play,
special recognition goes out to Patty Ledesma & Anais Noriega who both made their varsity debuts, falling only two points
shy of a victory with an 8-7, 8-6 loss in the tie-breaker.
In JV/Exhibition play, the Pilots began to build the foundation for the future, with #1 doubles
Jazmine Martinez & Dalilia Cornejo, as well as #2 Melissa Garibay and Rebeca Rodriguez winning 2 of the 3 official matches
played, while the rest of the squad played very well in various mixed-level match-ups.
