Congratulations to the boys tennis team for their great performances during round 1 of Monday's CIF Singles & Doubles Championships at the Balboa Tennis Center in Encino. In an interesting note, had the Pilots advanced to the quarterfinals of the team playoffs they would have faced off versus El Camino Real. It just happened that three of the Pilots' five entries faced off versus ECR. In singles, Manuel Leon and Walter Camacho managed to steal a total of three games versus ECR's top 2 players, who were the overall #1 and #7 seeds in the championships, respectively. In doubles, Kevin Lam and Juan Mijares took 3 games from ECR's top squad who was the overall #7 seed in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Chris Leon & Cristian Talavera took care of one of Van Nuys' 3 entries in straight sets, including an amazing "pole-shot" ace by Leon on match point. The Pilots' top pair, & overall #8 seed, Isai Chun & JoeAnthony Rodriguez, justified their seeded status by easily dispatching of Bell's top pair in straight sets.

Great job Pilots & good luck to Chun & Rodriguez, as well as Leon & Talavera as they now advance to the Round of 16 vs Birmingham's #1 squad & the overall #2 seed from Palisades, respectively.
