Re-Cap

In singles, Maina Germany (San Pedro) remained undefeated on the season after winning an all-San Pedro final over her teammate, Michelle Kerr, who upset the #1 players from both Carson well as Narbonne.

In doubles, both the #1 & #2 seeds were knocked out in the 1st round. Carson's #3 pair (Atienza/Querido) defeated Narbonne's #1 (Alayvilla/Cho), while Banning's #3 pair (Cano/Parra) upset Carson's top pair (Callejo/Canda). Banning's Reyes/Torres had NEVER played together prior to today, but paired up due to their regular partners inability to play today, & pulled out a great 12-10 tie-break over Carson's #2 pair before defeating their teammates to reach the final, where they played their 2nd epic tie-break of the day, falling to the eventual champs, #4 seed Kemberly Lemus & Vivian Duong of Gardena in a super-close 8-7 (8-6) match.

HISTORY OF THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

In recent years, the L.A. C.I.F. City Section singles & doubles championships have been held at Balboa Tennis Center in Encino, CA.  Prior to the 2010 season, the field consisted of 56 singles entries, and 56 doubles entries.  Each league was granted 6 entries in each.  In 2009, that number was reduced to 5 entries per league in each category. Beginning in 2010, due to drastic budgets cuts, that number was reduced to only ONE guaranteed entry per league in each category.  Due to these cuts, the Marine League Coaches decided to hold a Marine League Championship Tournament for all the best singles & doubles players in the league & established this end-of-season championship.  The winners of the tournaments earn the Marine League's automatic entries into the C.I.F. L.A. City Section Singles & Doubles Championships held at the Balboa Tennis Center in Encino, beginning on Tuesday, December 3, 2013, after team playoffs are complete.
