Singles & Doubles Championships - 1st Round
Out of over 200 singles players, and close to 500 doubles players city-wide, only the very best are invited
to the CIF LA City Section Singles & Doubles Championships, held annually at the Balboa Tennis Center in Encino.
With the thermometer reading 113° by the end of Tuesday's play, the Pilots overcame both the heat and some tough
opponents to advance in the tournament. In singles, Jonny Soria played well, yet struggled to get on track against one of
the top seeds in the entire CIF section. In doubles, Manuel Leon and Ryo Miralles dominated their opponents from Monroe, in
a straight-set victory including a second set shutout. Isai Chun and JoeAnthony Rodriguez were also impressive as they toppled
their opponents from Eagle Rock in straight-sets as well. Great job Pilots and good luck in the Round of 16 on Wednesday!
