Re-Cap of 4/15/13 Boys Tennis Match - Banning vs.
Narbonne
Congratulations to the boys tennis team for another tremendous effort vs. Narbonne
on Monday. Despite falling just short of the win, the team played with heart and passion during a hard-fought battle.
In singles, Jonthan Soria, Kevin Lam & Juan Mijares all played well in taking a combined 7 games in their matches, while
Walter Camacho overcame a 1st set blowout to avenge his previous defeat vs. Narbonne during the league opener,
consistently punishing and demoralizing his opponent with an array of shots, tying the overall team score at 3-all.
In doubles, Manuel Leon & Ryo Miralles staked their claim as the #1 duo in the Marine League with a straight-sets victory,
while Chris Leon & Cristian Talavera dominated the 1st & 3rd sets which also helped set up the
drama later on. Finally, Isai Chun & JoeAnthony Rodriguez barely missed out on taking the 1st set in
a close tie-break, yet rebounded from that disappointment by taking the 2nd set at 6-4. With all other matches
completed, the 3rd set would decide the team fate, as the Pilots looked to upend the undefeated Gauchos.
With the match tied at 5-all in that 3rd set, and Chun & Rodriguez up 40-15 it seemed as if the upset would
happen, yet their opponents fought back to take the lead and closed it out in the 35th game of the match to deny
the Pilots. In JV/Exhibition action, the Pilots took all 4 matches that pitted them against fellow JV players, while taking
4 games vs. varsity & mixed-level pairs as well. Great Job Pilots & Good Luck vs. San Pedro on Wednesday!
