Re-Cap of 4/5/13 Boys Tennis Match - Banning vs.
Carson
Congratulations to the Boys Tennis Team for their historic victory vs. Carson
on Friday. The 4-3 win, was only the second vs. the Colts in at least the past 19 years, and the 1st since
2008. In doubles, Manuel Leon & Ryo Miralles, as well as Isai Chun & JoeAnthony Rodriguez won easily by the
same scores, while Chris Leon & Cristian Talavera overcame a 1st-set deficit to win in straight sets, and set
up the dramatic finish. In singles, Jonathan Soria & Juan Mijares managed to take 1 game apiece, while Walter Camacho
ended up being the hero on the day. Early on, things looked bleak for the Pilots as the #3 doubles squad trailed, and
Camacho dropped a lop-sided 1st set. Momentarily, it seemed that the pattern of losses might continue and possibly
end in a 2-5 team loss. However, just as Leon & Talavera pulled out their match, Camacho seemed to gain momentum,
overcoming flu-like symptoms that plagued him in the previous day's practice, and steamrolled his opponent for the 3-set win
that gave the Pilots the match. In JV/Exhibition action, the Pilots won all 3 JV-pure matches with Julian Frausto &
Javier Gonzalez, as well as Rodrigo Chacon & Josh Guray producing 8-0 shutouts. Great Job Pilots & Good Luck
as the team concludes Round 1 of league play on Tuesday vs. Gardena.
