of 10/25/12 Marine League Seeding Meeting
In exciting news, the Marine League Championships,
set for Saturday, matches up the top singles & doubles players in the Marine League for a chance to advance to the C.I.F.
L.A. City Section Championships at Balboa Tennis Center in Encino. The Pilots proudly boast 2 entries into the Singles
Championships, who both placed in the top 5 singles players in the league. Meanwhile, the Pilots also had 2 pairs of
doubles ranked in the top 8 doubles tandems in the league, as both squads were also selected for the Championships. The winners
of both tournaments earn the Marine League's automatic entry in the C.I.F. L.A. City Section Championships held at the Balboa
Tennis Center in Encino.
Out of over 30 singles players in the Marine League, the top 8 qualified
for this end-of-season tournament. Jocelyn Cuevas, with impressive wins over the #1 singles players from Narbonne, Carson
& San Pedro, earned the #3 seed in the tournament, where she'll face off against the #6 seed who played the #3 singles
spot for Gardena all year. Natalie Martinez, who compiled a 12-2 singles record playing at the #2 singles spot all year,
earned the #5 seed, where she'll face off vs. a familiar opponent, the #4 seed from Narbonne, who played the #2 singles spot
as well. During the regular season, they split their two matchups.
Out of close to 30 doubles
tandems in the entire Marine League, only the top 12 squads are invited to participate in this year-end tournament.
Liesel Montañez & Renae Reyes boasted wins over the #1 squads from Carson, Rancho Dominguez & San Pedro, while
their only losses on the season came in very close tie-breaks. They claimed the #4 seed & will face off vs. the
winner of the #5 vs. #12 matchup that pits Narbonne's #2 squad vs. Carson's #3 pair. Marivi Angel & Brenda Torres
had impressive wins vs. San Pedro & Rancho Dominguez, while performing extremely well in some other close losses vs. some
of the league's best talent. They earned the #8 seed & will face off vs. Carson's #4 doubles pair, for a chance
to challenge the top seed in the tournament.
