News Release by the Athletics Office - Re: C.I.F. L.A. City Section Doubles Championships Selections
Congratulations toe Daniel Gomez & Miguel Pila, Juan Gomez
& Ryo Miralles, as well as Manuel Leon & JoeAnthony Rodriguez for all being selected to participate in the C.I.F.
L.A. City Section Doubles Championships to be held at the Balboa Tennis Center in Encino, CA beginning on May 15th.
After capturing the Marine League Doubles Championsip, and dropping only
1 regular season doubles match over the last 2 years, Daniel Gomez & Miguel Pila were the Marine League's automatic entry
into the championships. With the field made up of only the top 24 doubles squads in a C.I.F. L.A. City Section that
boasts close to 500 doubles players, there was no way to guage the chances of the league's and the team's chances of receiving
more than 1 entry. However, after strong doubles' performances all season long, the Marine League ended up receiving
a total of 4 entries, with the Pilots receiving 2 of the additional 3.
Joining
their teammates are Juan Gomez & Ryo Miralles, who went undefeated at doubles during the regular season, were ranked as
the #1 seed, where they ultimately ended up as the Runners-Up in the Marine League Doubles Championship.
Finally, Manuel Leon & JoeAnthony Rodriguez barely lost to the #1 seed in the Semi-Finals of the Marine
League Doubles Championships in an extremely tight 3-set match, that ended in a 7-5 score in that 3rd set. Additionally, they
produced notable wins over the #1 doubles pairings of Narbonne, San Pedro, Carson & Birmingham, en route to sweeping all
6 of their doubles matches through the quarterfinals of the Invitational Team Playoffs
While the draw doesn't come out until later in the week, we want to congratulate, once again, these six Pilots
& wish them Good Luck in the C.I.F. L.A. City Section Doubles Championships next week!
