Re-Cap of Boys Tennis - Marine League Doubles Championships

Congratulations to the Boys Tennis Team for several incredible performances during Saturday's Marine League Doubles Championship.  Again, out of close to 50 doubles players in the entire Marine League, only the top 8 pairs are selected for this year-end championship.  The Pilots garnered 5 of those 8 entries, with 4 pairs eventually participating.  3 of the 4 semi-finalists were from Banning, while the Championship Match pitted Banning teammates against each other for the title.

#7 seeds, Alex Chun & Isai Chun faced off against the #2 seed as a huge underdog, yet managed to give quite a scare forcing a tie-break in the 1^st set and actually holding serve at set-point.  #4 seeds, Manuel Leon & JoeAnthony Rodriguez, defeated one of Gardena's top squads en route to a semi-final appearance that they barely lost in 3 sets.  #1 seeds, Juan Gomez & Ryo Miralles, dominated their opponents in the 1^st round before finally falling in the championship game, yet still finished as runners-up.

Finally, #3 seeds, Daniel Gomez & Miguel Pila, crushed Carson's top pair, before avenging their only loss of the season, easily handling Gardena's top squad in the semi-finals, before capturing perhaps the first championship ever, for any Banning Boys Tennis players.

So once again, congratulations to Daniel Gomez & Miguel Pila, this year's Marine League Doubles Champions!
