Re-Cap of 4/26/12 Boys Tennis Match - Banning vs.
Carson
Congratulations to the Boys Tennis Team for another great effort versus League Champion, Carson.
Although the Pilots fell again, again it was a tough fight, with many close and standout performances. On "Senior
Day", the team honored its five Senior, presenting them with customized Senior Day uniforms and Leis. 2 of the
team's seniors finished their final team match with a win, while the other 3 also played well.
In singles, 4th-year
Senior, Daniel Gomez, & 3rd-year Senior, Juan Gomez, played well, but struggled against the top two singles
players in the entire league, as Daniel Gomez even managed to take one game in his match. Ryo Miralles fought valiantly,
yet also fell short. 4th-year Senior, Miguel Pila, battled in both sets, but especially in the 2nd,
as he faced a 1-5 deficit but kept scrapping, winning 2 of the last 3 games.
In doubles, the Pilots completed the
season sweep of all doubles matches versus the Colts, with all 3 pairs winning in straight sets. Back from injury, 2nd-year
Senior, Oscar Renteria, reunited with his partner for a dominating win, including a 2nd set shutout. 4th-year
Senior Alex Chun & brother, Isai Chun, finished out the year with perhaps their best performance yet, producing a perfect
6-0, 6-0 shutout win. Finally, Manuel Leon & JoeAnthony Rodriguez found themselves locked in battle with Carson's
top doubles squad, as they jockeyed for position in Saturday's Marine League Doubles Championship. Despite the Colts'
effort, however, Leon & Rodriguez walked away with the straight-sets victory, as the last match on court.
In
JV/Exhibition action, the Pilots took 5 of the 7 matches played easily, outscoring the Colts 45 games to only 25, led by Walter
Camacho & Chris Leon who won 8-1.
Great Job Pilots & Good Luck to the team as it now awaits results of both
the League Seeding Meeting, as well as the City-Wide Seeding Meetings to determine both team and individual playoff berths.
