Re-Cap of 4/23/12 Boys Tennis Match - Banning vs. Gardena

Congratulations to the Boys Tennis Team for a magnificent effort in the 2nd match of a double-header.  After defeating Washington earlier in the day, the team had vengeance on its mind, as in the team's 1st round contest vs. Gardena back in March, the Pilots barely missed out on a victory.  This day would be a day of atonement.  However, it was not to be.

In singles, Manuel Leon dominated his match in straight sets, shutting his opponent out in the 2nd.  JoeAnthony Rodriguez battled again, but again came up short.  Ryo Miralles continued his streak of impressive play and actually led 5-4 in both the 1st and 2nd sets, yet was unable to close it out in either.

In doubles, all three matches went the distance as the Pilots & Panthers battled for 3-sets in each contest.  Daniel Gomez & Miguel Pila dropped the 1st set against a hungry Panther squad, before evening the match at 1-set apiece with a convincing 6-2 win in the 2nd set.  Their opponents, however, took the 3rd set and the match, giving Gomez & Pila only their 1st doubles loss in 2 years of regular season Marine League play.  Alex Chun & Isai Chun, took the 1st set in their match, before quickly losing the 2nd.  Facing a 0-3 deficit in the 3rd, they continued to fight, tying the match at 3-all, before finally succumbing.   Kevin Lam played superb, in his 1st day of Varsity play, substituting for an injured Oscar Renteria, and teaming up with Jonathan Soria to take the 1st set, as they seemed positioned to take their match in straight sets.  Their opponents, however, forced a tie-break in that 2nd set & won easily to force a 3rd and deciding set.  Once again, Lam & Soria seemed prime to bring it home, yet faltered in a close set.

In JV/Exhibition play, Juan Mijares & Rodrigo Chacon were the only winners on the day, with and 8-5 win.

Great Job Pilots & Good Luck vs. Carson in the team's season finale and Senior Day on Thursday vs. Carson!
