Re-Cap of 4/18/12 Boys Tennis Match - Banning vs.
Narbonne
Congratulations to the Boys Tennis Team for another great effort yesterday at
Narbonne, in another extremely tight contest. Although the team fell short of an overall victory, once again, there
were many standout performances.
In singles, Daniel Gomez, played significantly better, challenging
for the 2nd set at 3-all, yet fell against one of the Marine League's best. Meanwhile, Ryo Miralles, faced
an early deficit at 1-3, but went on to win 11 of the next 13 games to claim a straight-sets victory, playing some of his
best tennis to date. Miguel Pila, facing off vs. another tough opponent, battled a very stubborn opponent, who seemingly
refused to be put away, yet Pila also won in straight sets, giving the Pilots an overall 3-2 team lead at the time.
In doubles, Manuel Leon & JoeAnthony Rodriguez produced yet another 6-0 shutout set, en route to a
straight-sets victory. Meanwhile, Alex Chun & Isai Chun played a dramatic 3-set match, including a comeback in the
2nd set to force a tie-break, which they won, thereby forcing a 3rd set. Alas, they would finally
fall, however, setting up even more drama in the last match on court. After winning in their 1st meeting
at Banning, Oscar Renteria & Jonny Soria faced off against the same opponents who had vengeance on their minds, winning
the 1st set easily, as they did back in March. However, the knowledge of that victory by Renteria & Soria,
gave them hope that victory was still attainable. After facing an early deficit, the Pilots seemed to take control,
surging ahead at 5-4. The Gauchos, however, determined to not have history repeat itself fought back to tie the set
at 6-all to force a tie-break, which they won to close out the match and the Pilots' chance at the team win.
In
JV/Exhibition action, Kevin Lam & Juan Mijares remained undefeated with a close win, while Walter Camacho & Chris
Leon won easily.
Great Job Pilots & Good Luck in the team's final road match today vs.
San Pedro!
