Re-Cap of 3/22/12 Boys Tennis Match - Banning vs. San Pedro
Congratulations
to the Boys Tennis Team for a dramatic 5-2 win over Marine League rival, San Pedro, on Thursday, here at Banning.
In
Singles, Miguel Pila & Ryo Miralles were very impressive in their matches, with both winning easily in straight sets.
Meanwhile, Juan Gomez battled, yet faltered in two extremely tight, identical and tough tie-break sets. Daniel Gomez
had perhaps his most impressive outing of the year, after taking a pounding in his last two league matches (losing 6-1, 6-0
vs. Gardena, and 6-0, 6-0 vs. Narbonne) , this time coming out on top versus a quality opponent at the #1 singles position.
In Doubles, Oscar Renteria & Jonny Soria overcame an early 0-3 deficit, palying the crucial points with
great composure, to win in straight-sets, while the other two doubles matches went the distance. Manuel Leon & JoeAnthony
Rodriguez took the 1st set in a tie-break before finally falling 7-5 in the next two sets, battling until the very
end. In the most dramatic match of the day, brothers, Alex Chun & Isai Chun stopped an "avalanche." After
splitting the 1st two sets, Chun & Chun built a commanding 5-1 lead in the 3rd, before San Pedro
reeled off 5 games in a row. Chun & Chun finally "stopped the bleeding" at 5-6 to force a 3rd
set tie-break, and cruised to the finish line with a 7-3 win to end the contest, in the last match of the day, as they were
mobbed by their teammates on the court.
In JV/Exhibition action, Kevin Lam & Juan Mijares remained
perfect with an 8-5 win, while birthday boy, Josh Guray took 3 games in a rare JV/Exhibition singles match. Walter Camacho
avenged his partner's defeat winning 9-7, while Alex Arredondo & Cristian Talavera pushed their Varsity opponents
to the edge of defeat, before finally succumbing in an extremely tight match that wasn't decided until the very end of the
tie-break.
Great Job Pilots & Good Luck vs. Washington next week!
