Re-Cap of 11-08-11 Girls Tennis Matches – C.I.F. L.A. City Section Doubles Championships – 1^st Round

Congratulations to Lizbeth Medina & Jamie Vasquez, as well as Luisa Martin & Angel Noriega of the Lady Pilots Tennis Team for a great effort in yesterday’s C.I.F. L.A. City Section Doubles Championships at Balboa Tennis Center in Encino in which they won a combined 8 games vs. some of the very best competition in the city.

In Martin & Noriega’s match, they took on a doubles tandem from Cleveland High School, of the vaunted West Valley League.  After a quick loss in the 1^st set, Luisa & Angel seemed poised to make a run in the 2^nd set, winning the 1^st and 3^rd games to take the early lead. Unfortunately, it was not to be, as Cleveland ran off 5 straight games to take the 2^nd set and the match.

In Medina & Vasquez’s match, they took on a doubles squad from Eagle Rock, who took 1^st place in the Northern League.  After a disappointing 1^st set, Lizbeth & Jamie seemed to settle in an figure out a strategy that would give them a chance.  They quickly built a 4-1 lead in the 2^nd set, only to see Eagle Rock mount a comeback to win the match in straight sets.

Although the season is now officially done for these four Lady Pilots, their teammates Melissa Garibay & Rebeca Rodriguez continue the fight in the next round, as the championships are now down to the last 16 doubles squads in the entire C.I.F. Section.  Congratulations once again, & Good Luck to Melissa & Becky on Thursday!
