Lady Pilots Rewarded for Excellence in Doubles...

Seeding News from the C.I.F. L.A. City Section Tournament Committee

Congratulations to the Lady Pilots Tennis Team for the incredible news the team received from the tournament committee in charge of the C.I.F. L.A. City Section Doubles Championships.

Out of close to 500 doubles players in the entire C.I.F. Section, only the top 24 squads are selected to participate in the Doubles Championships held at the Balboa Tennis Center in Encino, CA.  Prior to 2009, each league was granted 6 entries for this tournament.  However, due to budget cuts, the tournament field has been cut drastically, with each league only guaranteed one entry, making this tournament even more elite than ever before.  (With close to 60 schools in the C.I.F. Section, that amounts to an average of less than one entry per every TWO schools.)

We are proud to announce that the Lady Pilots, representing the Marine League, have been granted THREE entries into this elite tournament: Melissa Garibay & Rebeca Rodriguez, Luisa Martin & Angel Noriega, as well as Lizbeth Medina & Jamie Vasquez.

Melissa Garibay & Rebeca Rodriguez will be making their 3rd consecutive appearance, after an incredible tournament in 2010 in which they advanced all the way to the quarterfinals, and were selected to the 2010 C.I.F. L.A. City Section All-City 2nd Team.  Although they played mostly singles during the team’s regular season, they were a perfect 5-0 in their regular season doubles matches.

Luisa Martin & Angel Noriega will be making their 1st appearance in the tournament after a perfect 9-0 doubles record during the regular season.  Their ranking as the #1 seed in the Marine League Doubles Championship certainly helped their case as well.

Lizbeth Medina & Jamie Vasquez will be making their 2nd appearance after appearing in 2009.  The case for their selection was undoubtedly bolstered by their Runner-Up finish in this year’s Marine League Doubles Championship, as well as their 11-2 doubles record, through the team’s quarterfinal playoff vs. Westchester.

Congratulations once again for this incredible honor & Good Luck in Encino, beginning on November 8th.
