Re-Cap of Girls Tennis Match - Banning vs. Birmingham - Playoffs
Congratulations to the Lady Pilots Tennis Team for a dramatic win over Brimingham in Wednesday's
playoff match. By holding off the Patriots in the 4-3 win, the Pilots now advance to the Quarterfinals.
In Singles, Jocelyn Cuevas dominated her opponent in a 6-0, 6-2 drubbing.
In the closest match of the day at #1 singles, Luisa Martin trailed 4-3 in the 1st set before taking 3 games in
a row to take a 1-set lead. In the 2nd set, Martin led 3-0, before losing 3 in a row, as they battled back-and-forth.
In the 12th game, however, Martin held serve at Luv to close it out easily.
In doubles, the Pilots strength continued to shine. Jamie Vasquez & Lizbeth
Medina (Marine League Doubles Championship Runners-Up) won easily, 6-1, 6-3, while Melissa Garibay & Rebeca Rodriguez
did the same, winning 6-2, 6-1 which was the game-clincher for the Pilots.
In a unique JV/Exhibition Playoff opportunity, Jackie Cabrera & Sandra Hernandez produced
the rare "dozen donuts" victory, winning 6-0, 6-0 to officially close out their Banning careers.
The Pilots will now face #3 Westchester (at Westhchester) on Friday.
The two teams met in the pre-season, with Westchester winning 5-2. The Pilots, however, are confident that they can
avenge that loss.
