Re-Cap of 10/20/11 Marine League Seeding Meeting
Congratulations to the Lady Pilots Tennis Team for an incredible season, in which the team finished in 3rd
place in the Marine League with a 9-5 record. Although the results of the team playoffs won't be determined until Monday
evening, the Pilots are hopeful that their impressive league record will be enough to earn them a slot.
In news on the individual front, the Marine League will conduct its 2nd
Annual Marine League Championships this Saturday, October 22, 2011, hosted by Banning High School, beginning at 8 a.m.
For the tournament, the Pilots forewent their chances in singles in favor of opportunities in doubles, which has always been
the Pilots' greatest strength.
First, Banning's
top doubles tandem, & 2010 All-City Selections, Melissa Garibay & Rebeca Rodriguez, received a bye from the league
for the entire tournament & should advance directly to the C.I.F. L.A. City Section Tournament to be held later in November
at the Balboa Tennis Center in Encino, CA.
Out
of close to 25 doubles tandems in the entire Marine League, only the top 8 squads are invited to participate in this year-end
tournament, where the winner will ultimately guarantee themselves a spot in the C.I.F. L.A. City Section Tournament to be
held later in November at the Balboa Tennis Center in Encino, CA.
Luisa Martin & Angel Noriega, with a perfect 7-0 doubles record, were regarded as the top
remaining doubles tandem in the league and were given the #1 seed in the tournament, where they'll face off versus the #2
doubles squad from Carson which has the #8 seed.
Lizbeth
Medina & Jamie Vasquez also had an impressive doubles record, with 5 wins, and only 1 loss. They grabbed the #2
seed in the tournament, where they'll face their own teammates, and the #7 seed, Jocelyn Cuevas & Sabrina Serrano.
With Garibay & Rodriguez already advancing, and with
the seeding of the team's 3 selections for the tournament, the Pilots boast 3 of the entire league's top 4 squads, and 4 of
the league's top 9 doubles tandems.
