Re-Cap of 10-13-11 Girls Tennis Match - Banning vs. Gardena

Congratulations to the Lady Pilots for completing their 3^rd sweep of the season, with Thursday's 4-3 win over Gardena.  Despite being shorthanded, with two of the Pilots' top players in D.C. for the week, the team's veterans performed in the clutch, while the team's reserves filled in admirably.

In Singles, Melissa Garibay was the only winner on the day, taking the last 6 games in a row to close out her match. Meanwhile, Liesel Montañez & Renae Reyes took 4 games & 1 game respectively.

In Doubles, Jocelyn Cuevas & Sabrina Serrano dominated 8-2 setting up the drama that would follow.  With two matches to go, the Pilots trailed the Panthers 3 games to only 2.  1^st up were Luisa Martin & Angel Noriega who, despite leading early, trailed 5-6 late in the match.  Knowing that a loss by them would end the team's chances, Martin & Noriega re-focused, winning the last 3 games in a row to set up even more drama.

Lizbeth Medina & Sandra Hernandez seemed to be cruising in their match, reaching a 7-5 lead rather easily.  The Panthers, however, would not go down without a fight, and won the next two games to force a tie-break that would decide the entire team's fate.  Jumping out to an early 5-1 lead in the tie-break, Medina & Hernandez seemed to end all hopes for a comeback as they reached triple-match point.  However, fighting nerves & their own errors, more work would be needed as the Panthers knotted it all up at 6-6 in the tie-break.  As they team's switched ends of the court, Medina & Hernandez would finally pull out the win, taking the last 2 points as those looking on gasped in excitement, disappointment (Gardena) & sheer relief as the Pilots claimed the victory.

In JV/Exhibition action, Maggie Acicon saw her 1^st action of the season, as she teamed up with Natalie Martinez to take 3 games from their opponents.  Brenda Angeles & Jessica Ramos reunited for a great 6-1 romping, while Andrea Cardenas teamed up with varsity teammate Jackie Cabrera for a tight 7-5 win.

Awesome Job Pilots & good luck to the team as they prepare to make history in Banning's 1^st ever Night Tennis match in the team's home finale on Senior Night next Wednesday evening vs. Narbonne!
