CIF LOS ANGELES CITY
SECTION
2011 All-City Individual Tennis Playoff Selections
5/11/11
Congratulations
to Miguel Pila & Daniel Gomez for being selected into the C.I.F. L.A. City Section Doubles Championships.
Out of close to 500 doubles players in the entire C.I.F. L.A. City Section, only the top 24 doubles teams are selected
for this exclusive end-of-season championship tournament.
What makes this year’s tournament
even more exclusive is that the field is much smaller than in years past. In previous years, the tournament
consisted of the top 56 doubles squads in the City Section. However, due to budget cuts, the entire 1st
round was eliminated, and half of the second round as well.
As previously mentioned, as well,
the amount of entries per league was also severely limited as compared with what occurred in years past. Whereas
in prior years, the league sent a minimum of 6 doubles squads, beginning this year, the league was only guaranteed one entry.
After Pila & Gomez failed to earn the league’s one automatic bid, (after Carson’s top pair took the
title in the Inaugural Marine League Championships), there was no way to know whether or not Pila & Gomez would make the
field of 24. However, Pila & Gomez did rack up some amazing victories, putting together quite an impressive
résumé.

advancing to the Round of 16 in 2007.
