Boys Tennis Match – Banning vs. San Pedro
Congratulations to the boys tennis team for a huge win vs. San Pedro during yesterday’s home
finale. After so many close matches this season, the trend continued, but this time with a 4-3 win, giving
the team’s two seniors a victory in their last home match ever. The win was especially sweet, not
only because it was the team’s home finale & Senior Day, but it also helped the Pilots avenge a 5-2 defeat at San
Pedro, in what has become the team’s biggest rivalry.
In Singles, Juan Gomez lost his first set 0-6, yet stayed motivated, taking the 2nd set
before finally faltering in the end. Meanwhile Ryo Miralles & Daniel Gomez dominated their matches
in straight sets, outscoring their opponents 24 games to only 7.
In Doubles, Senior Eric Mendez teamed up with his freshman cousin Manuel Leon, taking 6 games in a
tough match vs. a doubles squad that included San Pedro’s top player. Meanwhile, Alex Chun &
Angel Amador dominated their match in straight sets as well. All of the aforementioned set up the drama
for the last match on court, in the #3 doubles match. With the overall team score tied at 3-all, Senior
Robert Guerrero, and freshman Abraham Moreno won two incredibly tight tie-break sets, to deliver an amazing victory for the
Pilots.
In JV Action, the Pilots
took all 3 matches played. Enrique Esparza & Isai Chun won easily, while Oscar Renteria & Juan
Mijares won their singles matches in straight sets.
Great Job Pilots & Good Luck in the season finale vs. Washington upon our return from spring break!
