Re-Cap of
4/6/11 Boys Tennis Match – Banning vs. Gardena
Congratulations to the Boys Tennis Team for another valiant effort in yesterday’s match vs.
Gardena. Despite many close matches, the Panthers showed why they continue to be undefeated in league play
as they vie for their 1st league championship in perhaps the last 20 years.
In singles action, the Pilots struggled against a strong lineup,
although Alex Chun took 4 games in his match, while Manuel Leon once again played a 3-setter against the same opponent.
This time, however, despite a furious comeback from Leon in the 2nd set, he would end up on the short end
of the stick.
In Doubles play,
Miguel Pila & Danny Gomez dominated, winning in straight sets while both the #2 & #3 doubles would also go to a decisive
3rd set. At #2, Ryo Miralles & Angel Amador came out hot winning the 1st set
easily & continued to battle in the final two back-and-forth sets, falling just short. At #3, Abraham
Moreno, fresh off a tough loss in his varsity singles debut, joined with veteran teammate Robert Guerrero for the first time.
After a disappointing 1st set, and trailing 3-5 in the 2nd, Moreno & Guerrero mounted a tremendous
comeback winning 4 games in a row, to take the set, setting up the dramatics for the last varsity match on court.
In the final set, however, despite some incredible shot-making & extended rallies, the Pilots would once again
fall short of victory.
In JV/Exhibition
Action, Enrique Esparza & Isai Chun won 2 matches on the day, while Ruben Rico & Rodrigo Chacon, as well as Jonathan
Arredondo & JoeAnthony Rodriuez all won. Oscar Renteria & Juan Mijares led their match the whole
way, yet faltered in the very end in an extremely tight match.
Great job Pilots & Good luck vs. Narbonne on Monday!
