Boys Tennis Match – Banning vs. San Pedro
Congratulations to the Boys Tennis Team for another great effort in Friday’s match vs. San Pedro.
Despite the fact that the team fell short of the victory, there were plenty of great performances.
In doubles, the team was able to overcome some
frustrating efforts from their match vs. Narbonne to get things on track. Miguel Pila & Danny Gomez
played an incredibly tough 1st set, barely pulling it out in a super-close tie-break, before dominating their demoralized
opponents in a 2nd-set shutout. Ryo Miralles & Angel Amador won their match easily in a
6-3, 6-1 straight-sets victory.
In
singles, the Pilots produced two inspiring performances. First up was Alex Chun who barely lost out on
taking the 1st set in an extremely tight set that remained close in the tie-break. Motivated
by being so close, Chun prepared himself for battle, taking the 2nd set at 6-4 to force a decisive 3rd
set. Seemingly running out of gas, however, it was not to be. Meanwhile, Juan Gomez
refused to be discouraged by a 6-1 1st set thumping, fighting and clawing his way back into the match in a very
back-and-forth 2nd set which saw Gomez produce perhaps his best tennis yet. Yet again, it was
not to be for the Pilots, despite that fact that the set went to a tie-break, as Gomez went down in a the final act.
In JV/Exhibition action, Abraham Moreno &
Isai Chun, as well as Enrique Esparza & Oscar Renteria won their matches. Meanwhile, Juan Mijares &
Ruben Rico defeated San Pedro’s #1 & #4 varsity players in a handicapped match.
Great Job Pilots, & Good Luck vs. Washington next week as the
team wraps up the 1st half of league-play!
