Boys Tennis Match – Banning vs. Washington
Congratulations to the Boys Tennis Team for an awesome 7-0 victory over Washington yesterday.
Not only did the Pilots win all 7 matches, but they outscored the Generals 85 games to only 11.
In singles, Miguel Pila, Danny Gomez, Ryo Miralles & Angel Amador
all produced the perfect “dozen donuts,” dominating their opponents with 6-0, 6-0 shutouts.
In doubles, Eric Mendez & Juan Gomez won easily 6-2, 6-2, as
did as well as Alex Chun & Manuel Leon who were just short of perfection as well, winning 6-1, 6-0. In
the most dramatic match of the day, however, Robert Guerrero & Isai Chun seemed like they were cruising to an easy victory
as well after taking the 1st seet at 6-1. However, ther Generals came out strong in the 2nd
set jumping out to a quick 5-1 lead, before Guerrero & Chun (who was making his varsity debut) came back, winning 6 games
in a row to take the 2nd set and the match in straight sets.
In JV/Exhibition Action, all 4 pairs also won led by Oscar Renteria & Juan Mijares who had an
impressive victory over their varsity opponents 8-1. In an interesting development, Abraham Moreno
& Enrique Esparza stepped on court vs. Washington’s top two varsity players from the Girls’ team, defeating
them in a close 8-6 win. Jonathan Arredondo & JoeAnthony Rodriguez played against a mixed-level squad,
winning 8-2, while Ruben Rico & Rodrigo Chacon also played against two varsity players, in a very back-and-forth match,
bringing it home in the end with an 8-6 victory.
Great Job Pilots, & good luck vs. Carson on Monday!
