Boys Tennis Match – Banning vs. Westchester
Congratulations to the Boys Tennis Team for a great effort during Monday’s match vs. Westchester.
Despite missing one of the team’s top players due to an injury, and facing frustrating weather conditions caused
by massive gusts of wind, the Pilots were able to maintain their composure and performed admirably.
In Doubles, the Pilots swept the Comets winning the only two 3-set
matches of the day. First up was Eric Mendez & Manuel Leon who posted a dominant 6-0 1st
set, before stumbling in the second, only to close it out 6-4 in the 3rd. Miguel Pila &
Daniel Gomez struggled with their consistency in the 1st set, before finally taking it in a close tie-break, and
then ended it 6-2 in the 2nd for the straight-sets victory. Alex Chun & Juan Gomez came
back from being a set down, winning the last two sets in another close match as well.
In singles, the Pilots struggled to get on the board, yet Robert
Guerrero, Angel Amador & Jonathan Arredondo all managed to win at least one game in their respective matches to prevent
the complete shutout. Hector Briseño, making his Varsity debut this season, after a season away
from the team, was fresh off a heartbreaking loss on the Pilots’ Championship Soccer game on Saturday. Still
reeling from the disappointment, Briseño still managed an impressive performance in two very close sets, capped off
by a tight tie-break in the 2nd.
In JV/Exhibition, all 3 doubles squads played well combining to win 14 games overall.
Great job Pilots and good luck vs. Franklin on Wednesday!
