CONGRATULATIONS TO REBECA
RODRIGUEZ & MELISSA GARIBAY for being selected into the L.A. C.I.F. City Section Individual Doubles Championships to be
held at Balboa Tennis Center in Encino, CA beginning on December 1st.
This end-of-season championship has
become even more exclusive than in years past, as the main draw now consists of only 24 entries out of close to 500 doubles
players in the entire L.A. C.I.F. City Section. Prior to this year's budget cuts in athletics, the draw was much
larger, including 56 entries. What makes this really cool for the Marine League, is that due to the aforementioned budget cuts,
each league was actually only guaranteed ONE entry in each catergory. So, the fact that the Marine League actually received
3 entries in each category, ( Rodriguez/Garibay of Banning plus 2 doubles teams from Carson - 1 Singles player from Narbonne
& 2 from Carson) is awesome. The fact that the Marine League was the only league to hold an end-of-season league
championship certainly bolstered their case.
In addition, 3rd place finishers in the Marine League Championships,
Patty Ledesma & Luisa Martin, were announced as the third alternates added to the group. What that translates into,
is that if three or more of the 24 entries fails to maintain academic eligibility, or is unable to participate for any reason,
these two Pilots will be added to the main draw.
