Tennis L.A. C.I.F. Invitational Playoffs Round 1 Match – Banning vs. Wilson
Congratulations to the Lady Pilots Tennis Team for a great effort versus the
Mules on Thursday. Despite being the lower-seeded underdog, the Pilots fought a good fight & did us proud.
In Doubles, Helly Duran & Jenny Castellon
played well & took 4 games to officially close out their careers at Banning, while Jamie Vasquez & Lizbeth Medina
took 5 games in theirs. Rebeca Rodriguez & Melissa Garibay dropped the 1st set before taking
a commanding 5-2 lead in the 2nd. Their opponents, however, mounted a rally & took the set
& the match in an extremely close 7-5 tiebreak.
Although the Pilots’ strength has been in doubles all season, they certainly proved their ability in singles with
some great performances there as well. Patty Ledesma & Carmi Lares played well despite taking losses,
yet took 3 & 4 games respectively to also close out their careers at Banning. Angel Noriega won her
1st set handily before her opponent also mounted a comeback in the 2nd, yet Noriega still finished with
a straight-set victory. The performance of the day, however, was led by Luisa Martin, who dropped the 1st
set before really settling in & handed her opponent a tough 3-set loss & a great victory for the Pilots.
Great Job Pilots & Good Luck to those players
still waiting on the draw to be made for the individual doubles tournament.
