At the end-of-season Marine League Meeting, there were several positive notes for the Lady Pilots Tennis Team: - The
Pilots finished with an 8-4 overall record, with a 6-4 league mark. This was good enough to earn the Pilots 3rd place, and
a probable 5th consecutive playoff bid.
- The L.A. C.I.F. City Section has dramatically reduced the number of entries
into the end-of-season singles and doubles championships. Each league was traditionally granted 6 singles entries and
6 doubles entries. With the creation of an additional league in 2009, that number was dropped to 5 of each in 2009.
Due to deep budget cuts, that number now stands at 1 singles entry and 1 doubles entry per league. To create a more
fair system to determine our league's entry, and to create an end-of-season tournament that is now denied to so many, the
Marine League is conducting its 1st Annual Marine League Championships.
- This year's Marine League Championship features
6 singles entries and 6 doubles entries. The top 2 seeds in each draw receive a 1st round bye & go directly into the semi-finals
round.
- Patty Ledesma & Luisa Martin were announced as the #5 seed, and will face off versus Gardena's #1 doubles
squad, who is the #4 seed.
- Melissa Garibay & Rebeca Rodriguez were announed as the #1 seed in the doubles draw
and will face the winner of the match between Ledesma/Martin & Gardena in the semi-finals.
- The Team now awaits
the results of the City-Wide Seeding Meeting, which takes place Mon. 11/1. to find out the results of the Team Playoffs.
Congratulations
Lady Pilots & Good Luck at the Marine League Championships this Saturday, hosted by Banning High School.
