Re-Cap of 10/18/10 Girls Tennis Match – Banning vs. Gardena
Congratulations to the Lady Pilots for completing
the season sweep over Gardena, with a 5-2 victory on Monday. The Pilots now own a 12-match win streak vs.
Gardena, dating back to the 2005 season.
In Doubles, Jessica Ramos made her varsity debut, teaming up with Jenny Castellon for the 8-0 shutout, while Carmi Lares
& Angel Noriega dominated their opponents 8-2.
In singles, Lizbeth Medina blanked her opponent with an 8-0 shutout of her own, while Melissa Garibay
was impressive in her victory as well. The story of the day, however, was Rebeca Rodriguez who took the
court hoping to avenge her loss to the Panthers’ #1 singles player from earlier in the season. Trailing
4-5, Rodriguez won 3 of the next 4, leading to a tie-break. In the tie-break she got out to an early 4-0
lead, before closing it out 7-3 for the win.
In JV/Exhibition action, Brenda Angeles & Areli Chun, Liesel Montanez & Renae Reyes, as wel as Ruthie Caballero
& Victoria Serrano all produced identical 6-3 wins, while Celenia Caballero & Jocelyn Cuevas also led 4-2 before the
action was called due to time constraints.
