Re-Cap of 4/3/08 Match: Banning vs. San Pedro
Congratulations to the Boys Tennis Team
for their dominant 6-1 victory over San Pedro on Thursday. With this last win, the Pilots are now 5-0 in
Marine League, having swept the entire league in the first round of play, creating the longest winning streak for Banning
in the last 15-20 years.
The theme of the day, was without a doubt, the fact that there were FOUR
3-set matches, that all went to the Pilots. In singles, special recognition goes out to the top 3 singles
of the day. Oliver Arreaga overcame a lot of pain, as he was suffering from a major blister on his bottom
left foot. Andres Suarez overcame a pivotal call that went against him at 6-7 in the 2nd-set
tie-break, but went on to dominate the 3rd set. Jacob Loy overcame a pesky “Energizer
Bunny” for San Pedro who forced Loy to hit 2-3 winners on every point, returning seemingly EVERY
ball in an awesome display of defense. This was the last match on court, and perhaps the most exciting.
In Doubles, Jon Melgar
& John Ngo (aka “Jon/John Squared”), as well as Rozairo Miralles & Hernan Suarez took their matches in
straight sets, with relative ease. Ricardo Zaragoza & Ignacio Torres, struggled to close out their
opponents, yet managed to get re-focused in time to dominate the 3rd set & get the win.
In Exhibition play,
both doubles teams “handled” their business & the Pirates with some incredible shot-making & toughness.
Awesome job
Pilots, on an incredible first half of the season & good luck as the second round begins on Monday at home vs. Washington.
