Re-Cap of 2nd Round - L.A. C.I.F. City Section
Doubles Tournament - Wed. 5/19/10 Congratulations to the Pilots once
more, for their efforts in the 2nd round of the doubles tournament. While the season officially ended for the team,
the 4 seniors involved in Wednesday's matches made the most of their trip. First up was Senior Joseph Mejia
who partnered with Marcus Macias vs. a very tough Palisades team, fresh off the Team Championship. Although not reflected
by the final score, Mejia & Macias played great and delighted the crowd and their opponents with their sportsmanship,
effort and attitude. Next was Senior Kwang Lee, joined by Ryo Miralles vs. a tough team from the Western
Valley, Cleveland. Avoiding the shutout, these Pilots played well as they tried to recapture their magical play from
Monday, to no avail. Finally, Seniors & 4-year members of the team, Justin Garcia & Hernan Suarez,
stepped on court with perhaps the best chance of advancing vs. Wilson's #1 squad. Trailing 1-4 in the 1st set, Garcia &
Suarez fought back, getting to 4-all before giving up the set. They would ride that momentum, however, into the 2nd
set, continually frustrating and intimidating their opponents to force a decisive 3rd. After getting off track early,
the Pilots faced a desperate 1-5 hole, yet managed to win 2 games in a row, to get within striking distance. It was
not to be, however, as the Mules of Wilson, proved to be just as stubborn as their mascot, and closed out the set, and the
match. The tournament provided a tremendous opportunity for the Pilots to cast away thoughts of the disappointing
season for the team & these players did just that. Although the careers of 4 seniors ended, a bright future seems
right around the corner as Junior Marcus Macias & Freshman Ryo Miralles prepare to lead the team & get the Pilots
back on track in 2011. Great Job Pilots! 2nd Round L.A. C.I.F. City Section - Individual Doubles Playoffs Marcus Macias & Joseph Mejia vs. Robert Silvers
