Re-Cap of Boys Tennis Match - Banning vs. San Pedro 4/28/10
Congratulations again, to the Pilots tennis team for an incredible performance on "Senior Day," during
the team's season finale vs. the Pirates. The day was filled with many pre-game ceremonies & new traditions, as
the Seniors definitely went out on a great note.
In
singles, Miguel Pila mangaged to take 3 games in his match, yet it was Senior & 4-year player, Hernan Suarez, who had
the performance of the day. Hoping to avenge his defeat vs. Pedro's #1 in their matchup earlier in the season, Suarez
started out dominant, easily winning the 1st set, before a slight hiccup in the 2nd. In the 3rd
set however, he built an early 4-0 lead, yet it was not to be. Despite his opponent's impressive comeback, Suarez played
incredibly. In addition, 2nd-year player & fellow senior, Steve Chavez, jumped up the ranks to make his
varsity debut, producing several deuce games during this exciting opportunity.
In doubles, Marcus Macias, and Senior & 2-year player, Kwang Lee, won their match easily in
straight sets. Seniors & both 2-year players, Joseph Mejia & Daniel Quiñonez, had a mix of dominance
and intrigue as they shut out their opponents in the 1st set, yet dramatically won the 2nd in a very
tight tie-break. Another Senior & 4th-year player, Justin Garcia, teamed up with Ryo Miralles & played
a tremendous 2nd set, forcing the tie-break and even building a 4-0 lead in that tie-break before finally faltering.
In JV/Exhibition action, Eric Mendez played
& won a rare singles match, while Alex Chun & Kevin Reyes also dominated, ensuring the perfect season for the JV squad.
Congratulations Pilots on the season & good luck
to the team as they await post-season news from the city-wide seeding meeting on Thursday!
