Re-Cap of 3/26/08 Match: Banning vs. Narbonne
Congratulations to the Boys Tennis Team for their exciting
5-2 victory over Narbonne yesterday. The win was only the second time that the Pilots have beaten the Gauchos
in perhaps the last 20 matches, and ended Narbonne’s 2-game win streak over Banning.
In Singles, #4 Will Guzman & #2
Fernando Moncloa both produced strong performances in winning their singles matches in straight sets. Moncloa
won 6-4, 6-4 in an extremely tight contest, in perhaps his best match ever.
After easily taking their first set, #2 Doubles, Rozairo
Miralles & John Ngo, wound up needing 3 sets to close out their opponents, but still came out triumphant in the end.
#1 Doubles, Andres Suarez & Jon Melgar, needed 3 sets as well, but had to fight back from a 1st–set
deficit. They did so, by dominating the 2nd-set 6-1 & quickly building a 4-1 lead in the
3rd. The Gauchos, however, would not go away, and tied them at 4-4, and again at 5-5 forcing
extra games. After an amazing shot by Melgar, that forced him to tip-toe to avoid touching the net in the
most exciting point of the day, they would dominate the 12th game, breaking their opponents at luv, to hold on
for a 7-5 win.
#3 Doubles, Hernan Suarez & Ricardo Zaragoza almost had the perfect match, with a 6-1, 6-0 thrashing of their
opponents, in a surprisingly dominant performance.
In exhibition play, the Pilots were perfect winning all 4 contests played, led by #1 Doubles
Gabriel Hernandez & Ignacio Torres who won 8-4.
