Re-cap of 10/28/09 Girls Tennis Match - Banning vs. Carson
Congratulations
to the Pilots, once again, for another great effort in the season finale vs. Carson on Wednesday. Depite the overall
team loss, there was some great play by these Lady Pilots & a significant individual accomplishment for the team's top
player.
In doubles, Jamie Vasquez & Lizbeth Medina built an early 4-3 lead before finally falling,
while Vicky Martinez & Melissa Garibay fought back from a big deficit early, to make it close before also losing a close
one. Sandra Medina & Patty Ledesma fought hard & produced many crowd-pleasing points in their match as well.
In singles, Dalilia Cornejo, Luisa Martin & Rebeca Rodriguez all played well & fought hard against
some very talented Colts, depite the score not truly reflecting their solid play. The story of the day, however, was
Kathy Ngo, coming off a difficult loss vs. Narbonne on Senior Day in which she held a strong lead early. On this day,
however, Ngo would dominate from the start & never let up, cheered on by a large Pilot crowd that delighted in every point,
as they helped push Kathy Ngo to an impressive 8-3 win at #1 singles versus perhaps the 2nd best overall player
in the entire Marine League. This was the first time, in at least 15-20 years that the Pilots have been able to score
such a high-profile victory over the Carson Colts.
In JV/Exhibition play, Wendy Arreola, in her last
appearance for the Pilots, teamed up with Helly Duran for a hard fought 7-5 victory, while Angel Noriega & Carmi Lares
also won 6-2.
