“LADY PILOTS TENNIS TEAM MAKES SIGNIFICANT STRIDES AGAINST MARINE LEAGUE’S BEST.” Re-Cap of 10/19/06 Match vs. Carson
Congratulations to the Lady Pilots for a
very improved effort against a Carson team who is now riding a 78-game winning streak in the Marine League over the last 8
years, & looking to improve upon last year’s runner-up finish in the City Championship.
The Pilots were able to steal a total of 9 games overall, with 5 of the 7 matches contributing winning games.
Special recognition
goes out to #1 Doubles Nancy Melgoza & Margaret Young who proved to be a tough challenge for the Marine League’s
#1 doubles team. Melgoza & Young forced 4, maybe 5 deuces & even held a lead at one point in the
match, over one of the best doubles tandems in the entire LA CIF City Section.
The play of Melissa “Nemo” Hernandez (#4 Singles)
was inspiring, especially during a very impressive point sequence that was played as perfectly as possible.
Playing the toughest
assignment of the day at #1 singles was Jackie Gonzalez, who also held a lead over the #1 player from Carson, who is also
one of the strongest singles players in the entire City Section.
The Lady Pilots once again look forward to getting back
to winning as they go on the road versus Gardena & San Pedro to finish up the regular season.
Great job Pilots! Keep
on working hard. We’re very proud of you! J
